Under pressure locally for her handling of the affairs of the Grenada Olympic Committee (GOC), its General Secretary Veda Bruno-Victor has landed a top position in the Olympic Movement of the Americas.
Bruno-Victor of Grenada along with Camilo Perez (Paraguay) and Sarah Hirshland (USA) were elected Vice Presidents of the major sporting body on the first day of the LXII General Assembly of Panam Sports.
An investigation conducted by a GOC committee headed by Ralph Lord had pointed an accusing finger at Bruno-Victor over the spending of thousands of dollars given to the local body by a group known as Olympic Solidarity, an arm of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
THE NEW TODAY understands that GOC was ordered to repay most of the unaccounted funds.
The top job for President for the period 2024 to 2028 was held and the incumbent Neven Ilic was returned with a total of 37 votes over his opponent Keith Joseph of St Vincent who obtained 16 votes.
It was a battle between Ilic, and Joseph the second vice-president of Panam Sports.
Ilic will have the mission of leading Panam Sports for the next 4 years in his third consecutive term in the Organisation.
“I want to thank all those who supported me, for allowing me to finish this project. These elections are over and I can say that we are a great group. Everyone is part of this project. Of course, I thank my friend Keith Joseph. We will continue working so that the Americas remain a stellar continent,” said Ilic at the end of the vote.
But the Pan American Sports Organization Assembly did not only elect a President. Vice Presidents and new members of the Executive Board were also elected.
Sarah Hirshland (USA), Veda Bruno Victor (Grenada) and Camilo Perez (Paraguay) were elected vice presidents in each of their groups.
Jimena Saldaña was re-elected Secretary General by President Neven Ilic and later approved by the General Assembly, and Richard Peterkin continues in his functions as Treasurer.
