Twenty-four hours after the alleged murder of a 14-year old secondary school student residing at Lauriston on the sister isle of Carriacou, details are beginning to emerge about the circumstances in which she was discovered dead.
A well-placed source told THE NEW TODAY that Esther Patterson, a student of Hillsborough Secondary School (HSS) was brought to the Princess Royal Hospital by a 31-year old businessman John Alexis who reportedly discovered her Friday on the compound of a church.
Two police officers were called to the lone hospital on the small island and spoke to a female doctor on duty, Dr. McLawrence who was inside the Emergency Room.
The doctor reportedly told the Police Officers that the student was brought to the hospital by Alexis who is described as her step-father.
Alexis said he met Esther leaning against a wall on Pastor Happy’s church at Brunswick.
According to a police insider his two colleagues who visited the hospital reported seeing the young lady with mouth open lying faced up on a bed, and her body covered with a white sheet from her chest downwards.
The doctor said she examined the student but quickly realised that she was dead.
She also said that on further examination of the body, she noticed that there were violent marks around Esther’s neck, inside her mouth and that blood was spotted inside her vagina which also had bruises.
The step-father indicated that just after 9.00 a.m on Friday, he dropped off Esther in the town of Hillsborough and gave her money to pay the bus to take her back home after school and to buy a drink for her break.
He also told police officers that the next time he saw her was around 2.00 p.m when he was driving his van towards town.
Alexis said that on reaching close to Pastor Happy’s church near to Brunswick Cemetery, he saw her sitting with her head leaning against the wall on a step leading to the back of the church building.
He spoke of stopping the vehicle, coming out of it and soon started to quarrel with Esther but she did not respond to him.
He said he called out to her and asked what she doing there but she still did not respond and he observed that she was not moving.
According to the step-father, he jumped down a wall, headed to where she was, touched her and still she did not move.
Alexis told police officers that he then raised up Esther, took her into the vehicle and headed straight to the hospital.
Police are continuing their investigation into what is now being treated as a homicide.
