Police in Grenada have stepped up their investigation into a report that a senior civil servant in the Ministry of Health had been engaged in sexual molestation of his 15-year old daughter.
THE NEW TODAY received a tip on June 26 that the matter was in the hands of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF).
The following message was sent to our News Desk – “Have you heard about the arrest of the Pharmacist (name withheld) by St David Police for impregnating his 15 year old daughter?”
When one of our reporters checked with the station, officers at St David said that they were not holding anyone for questioning into the alleged sexual molestation case.
According to well-placed sources, the Sexual Crime Unit of RGPF has now intensified its investigation into the alleged incident and members were seen Wednesday on the compound of the Ministry of Health at the Botanical Gardens.
A well-placed source said that a team of plain clothes officers went into an office to meet with the Permanent Secretary amidst speculation that the discussions focused on their interest in one of the staff members.
He stated that the staff member who is suspected to be at the centre of the police investigation was also seen later in the day going into the office of the Permanent Secretary.
When contacted a senior police officer confirmed to THE NEW TODAY that he is aware of this high profile investigation into the government employee.
He said that he was notified about it by someone in the Grenville Police Station in St. Andrew.
Speculation is rife that an arrest is imminent as the 15-year old has informed close relatives and also the police about several cases of sexual intercourse with her father.
