The Department of Chemistry at the Mona Campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI) has told the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) that it discovered a high concentration of the deadly Ethanol substance in the stomach of late Grenada ex-Senator Neilon Franklyn.
A copy of the report, dated October 13, 2025 and seen by THE NEW TODAY said that the stomach area was covered 90% with Ethanol.
The university lab also told the local Police Force that Franklyn’s blood also contained 83% of the deadly Polyethylene glycol (PEG) and 90% Ethanol and 99% Paracetamol (acetaminophen).
In its report, the University lab said: “Polyethylene glycol (PEG) is a versatile, synthetic, water-soluble polymer with numerous applications in medicine, cosmetics, and industry. Ethanol is a volatile, flammable, colorless liquid, commonly known as ethyl alcohol, the intoxicant in alcoholic beverages.
Paracetamol is a common over-the-counter painkiller and fever reducer.”
The report also said that no drugs, pesticides or other toxic chemicals were detected in Franklyn’s kidney and likewise in his Liver.
A medical doctor familiar with this kind of scientific Pathology indicated that police investigators need to start a probe by looking into the place where the ex-Senator was drinking the night before he died to see if anyone had mixed or laced his drink with the poisonous substance.
He said the autopsy and clinical investigation from UWI explained what he died from, how he died, where he died and it is now up to the Police to find out the missing parts – who administered the poisonous substance to him and the motive behind this.
A copy of the autopsy done by noted Trinidad Pathologist Professor Hubert Daisley referred to the 27-year old former Customs officer as being “apparently healthy and suffering with no known disease.”
“He had no recent medical complaints. He had no history of drug usage or tobacco usage,” it said.
The report mentioned that the ex-Senator was at a birthday party of his friend (name withheld) on the night of the 23rd of August 2025 and the early morning of 24th August 2025. He was consuming alcohol.
“He returned home on Sunday 24 August 2025 at around 3-4 a.m. He began retching loudly which was heard by his mother. He went back to sleep. He woke at around 10.00 a.m. on Sunday 24th August 2025, went to the kitchen for a drink of water, felt lightheaded, began to sweat profusely, and collapsed.
“He was taken to the Public Hospital at St George’s, where he was admitted, where his blood pressure was decreasing. He used the toilet. Had blood tests. He began to have seizures and remained with a staring gaze. He defecated himself and became incontinent of urine. He had a cardiorespiratory arrest and could not be resuscitated. He was pronounced dead on 24th August 2025.”
Among the key findings of the Autopsy conducted by Professor Daisley was a swollen brain and that all the major organs had shut down because of the ingestion of the ethanol substance.
Professor Daisley specifically mentioned that Franklyn had a congested liver and acute renal failure of the Kidney.
He concluded: “From the above-mentioned information and appearances, I believe: – Neilon Franklyn aged 27 years died from multi organ failure, affecting the kidneys, heart, and central nervous system (brain).
“The clinical history is compatible with a chemical toxin. However, a toxic screen would be done to include, ethylene glycol, ethanol, methanol, opioids like fentanyl, marijuana, and other agricultural poisons.
“Toxicology would be done on tissue samples taken at autopsy. Histological examination of tissues taken at autopsy would be done.”
