Kem Jones to launch new FM radio station in December

Kem Jones – one of the harshest critics of NNP’s Keith Mitchell

One of Grenada’s most controversial radio talk show personalities Kem Jones will open his own FM radio station in December.

Speaking to THE NEW TODAY on Tuesday, Jones who is celebrating his 10th anniversary in the business next month said that the station would be officially opened in the last quarter of the year somewhere in the town of St George.

“The intention is to rent a place in the Mall (on the Esplanade) – not far from Boss FM (another FM radio station) or another place by NIS,” he said.

“I have some equipment already and I have started the process (to set up the radio station),” he remarked.

According to Jones, it will be “a full FM radio station” but it would include a podcasting aspect of it.

“Well you know we must go video and online – so it’s coming on stream,” he said.

The talk show host indicated that he is still to decide on the name for the new radio station.

Jones is now associated with the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) party of Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell after his initial entry into politics with the New National Party (NNP) of ex-Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell.

The Grand Roy resident broke with the NNP over the manner in which Dr. Mitchell single-handedly overturned the results of a balloting by party delegates to select the candidate for the St George North-east seat for the 2008 general election.

The balloting was won by former Solicitor General Dwight Horsford but Dr. Mitchell stepped in and gave the nod to former Health Planner Kennedy Roberts who was defeated in the national poll by NDC’s Nazim Burke who went on to become the island’s Minister of Finance.

Horsford is now said to be plotting his way to replace Dr. Mitchell as the new NNP Political Leader at a party convention likely to be held in the September/October period.

During the heated exchange at the NNP meeting in which Horsford was overlooked, the then Prime Minister ordered his Security Detail to escort Jones out of the venue on the grounds that he was disruptive.

The talk show host was a major contributor to the 2022 election victory of NDC under political newcomer Dickon Mitchell, a 47-year old attorney-at-law by profession.

Speculation is rife that Jones and his new FM radio station will play a critical role in NDC’s attempt to hold onto power in the next general election constitutionally due in 2027.

Jones’s current talk show programme is heard on Vibes FM on the 101. 3 and 106.3 platforms, WILD 106.3 FM in New York and on Vision Information Services on Youtube and on Grenada Transformation Agenda on Facebook.
