Grenada and Korea continue to forge alliance

Foreign Affairs Minister Hon Joseph Andall receiving keys from Ambassador of South Korea His Excellency Dongil Oh

In demonstrating their support and friendship that span almost five decades, South Korea was among countries that took part in celebrations in Grenada to mark the island’s 50th anniversary of Independence.

The South Korean Ambassador Dongil Oh last week Tuesday handed over some vehicles to the Minister for Foreign Affairs Joseph Andall at a brief ceremony held at the Ministerial Complex at The Botanical Gardens.

Ambassador Oh expressed gratitude to the Grenadian community for their generosity and friendliness and disclosed that in August the two countries will commemorate fifty years of diplomatic affiliation.

“…In the month of August this year Korea and Grenada will celebrate once again for the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations. As far as I know, the date is August 4th and we are planning to do some commemorative events including visits by the group of cultural performers like Fusion and Korean Grenadian music and I hope we can do it in the month of August,” he said.

The Ambassador revealed that the events will be linked to the island’s year-long 50th independence anniversary celebrations.

South Korea and Grenada established diplomatic relations under the former Labour party government of the late Eric Gairy, the island’s first Prime Minister who is now referred to as the Father of the Nation.

The ceremony for the handing over of the vehicles was attended by Cabinet Secretary Carvel Lett, as well as Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Roxie Mc Leish-Hutchinson and the Honorary Consul for South Korea in Grenada, former Magistrate Jerry Seales.
