In a splendour of colours, costumes, and Kayak culture, Carriacou’s carnival allowed many veterans and rookies alike to shine on various platforms.
Adopting the theme: Showcasing Our Rich Culture – Your Passport to Real Mas and Splendour Majestic, Kayaks home and abroad witnessed an array of talent as countrymen and women displayed their creative abilities.
Majestic Thursday kicked off the festivities last Thursday capturing the hearts of spectators as five women vied for the title of Carriacou’s Carnival Queen at Hillsborough Recreation Ground.
After the introduction, costume and evening wear rounds of competition, Miss Windward Sashelle Alves emerged victorious, capturing the crown.
Miss Soubise Aaliyah Henry took the first runner up spot while Miss Paraclete Kenya Alexander took the second runner up position.
Melodious voices embraced spectators at the Hillsborough Recreational Ground on Fantastic Friday as they witnessed nine artistes perform in the Groovy Soca competition while ten performers aimed to claim the Power Soca Monarch crown held by Garvin “Mozo” Moses.
After many electrifying performances, Dante Sylvester who sings under the sobriquet “Playboy HTD” captured the Power Soca Monarch crown performing his composition, “Doomsday.”
Despite their captivating presentations and executions, Killa B and Silver Bullet took the second and third positions in last Friday’s competition.
Reigning soca monarch Mozo had to settle for fourth place singing the song “Celebration.”
Adorned in the national colours, an animated Super Flying Flint galvanized the crowd with his song “Shells and Bells” placing fifth.
Singing on infidelity in relationships, Leyron “2Blaxx” Joseph successfully secured the Groovy Soca Monarch crown with his selection “Too Wicked.”
Surrounded by dancers and masqueraders, second place winner Mentii performed his composition “Long Time” to a receptive crowd while Killa B took the third place with the song “Motivation.”
Social issues took centre stage as Dimanche Gras was held last Sunday.
Reigning supreme at the end of the night was Nashanda Charles capturing the Dimanche Gras crown as Killa B and Lady B took the second and third places respectively.
