Dear readers, sometime ago I shared with you..MAPC… Grenada’s best kept secret. Well guess what? Not only are they still forging ahead despite the many challenges they face ever so often but admirably they have now added an arcade to their amusement park.
George, the owner explained that one night after his usual prayers he fell asleep but was awoken suddenly in the midst of a strange dream. He immediately woke his wife and shared with her the vision he had about opening an arcade despite the fact that they didn’t possess the requisite finance needed to execute this undertaking – they persevered and kept looking for ways and means to realise same.
It was then that he recalled some empty containers they had in the yard. These they cleaned, painted with careful planning and insight. All hands came on “deck” as is the usual modus operandi of the MacDonald family and so it was that last Saturday the arcade was launched with a grand flourish.
I could not contain my curiosity so I ventured down there to have a firsthand look. It was a well worth trip!! On entering the arcade, despite the prior knowledge that it was once mere containers, the ambience made that fact almost impossible to believe.
There I was standing in a fully air-conditioned area with games that catered to the young, the not so young and just about everyone in between.
Pool table, air hockey games, simulator car and bike games, fully computerised, with modern features and popular names like “Exterminator” were all neatly lined up awaiting folks.
There was even a street basketball machine, also computerised … I was even challenged to a game of shoot the hoops with the lady of the house, the ever delightful Hilary. Shamefully, I cannot disclose who won.
The arcade is managed by the eldest daughter, and so far it has met with resounding success. So readers, this carnival season, if you need somewhere to relax and cool down after all the excitement, head on down to MAPC.
There is something for everyone who enters the gate. The park is open from 4.00 p.m.daily, not to mention the fully stocked bar and the kitchen which serves up fresh nutritional meals, prepared under the watchful eyes of Hilary. All her herbs and spices are grown in their kitchen garden.
Remember too, if you have groups of twelve or more persons, you can check the number on their facebook page, call ahead and they can arrange to open a little earlier just to accommodate you. Whatever your fancy, the friendly staff at MAPC are waiting to welcome you with open arms.
So come on down as MAPC is calling you!!!
