Walking in town is a nightmare

Mr Commissioner of Police, have you noticed that the vending on the streets of the city is now at crisis proportions? Every day there are “new” vendors joining what has become a real jungle, creating a nightmare for pedestrians who wish to use the sidewalks.

The umbrellas extend at head height, creating potential hazards to anyone using the sidewalks legitimately.

At the bottom end of the intersection of Hillsborough and Halifax streets, vendors have taken over that corner, making the sidewalk impassable, forcing the users into the path of vehicular traffic.

As far as I know sidewalk vending is illegal, but I don’t mind being corrected if that has been legally changed.

Sir, I am sure that I don’t stand alone in wishing that for this season, and going forward, the sidewalks in our towns can be made more user friendly for us pedestrians.
