I often have to ask myself, where are we going as a society and as a nation in terms of the things that we value and embrace as a people.
It was a very unfortunate incident that took place at SMC office between Mr Jacob and Mount Pure entrepreneur Rolanda McQueen. Although she barged in his office I’m not condoning that behaviour either but there are better ways of dealing with it and it’s certainly not with violence.
I was rather dumbfounded by Mr Jacob unwarranted actions against a woman. I have listened to the opinions and views of women in general and it seems they too are endorsing this disgraceful behaviour from the CEO.
What are we really teaching our children? Are we telling them that it’s ok to have flare-ups and display bad behaviours when discomposed?
What happened to conflict resolution? Is that how we deal with issues now by pushing and slamming a door on a woman’s arm in rage and anger?
This is inexcusable and it must not be accepted by anyone, it’s rather unconscionable for someone in Managerial position to behave in such a preposterous manner.
I will not condone violence against women and girls and I certainly don’t support violence on a whole against anyone regardless of who they are, social, ethnic background, social standing or strata.
Useful understandings of physical violence include “the use of physical force against another person or group, that results in physical, sexual or psychological harm” or “any attempt at physical injury or attack on a person including actual physical harm.”
Many reputable organisations like (ILO) International Labour Organisation, (UN) United Nations and International Human Rights have all made it publicly clear and have condemned behaviours of violence against women.
The Declaration on the Elimination of Violence Against Women issued by the UN General Assembly in 1993, defines violence against women as “any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or in private life.”
Why hasn’t the SMC Board of Directors taken disciplinary action against their CEO?
Out in the international world he would have been dismissed forthwith or suspended pending an investigation. Violence against women shouldn’t be tolerated in our society.
I have not seen or heard any non-governmental or governmental organisation neither the Minister of Social Development, condemning the actions taken by SMC CEO against a woman.
I don’t have to call names to embarrass anyone but I think those organisations and individuals know who they are.
GBN “Beyond the Headlines” 22nd July 2019 edition hosted by Odette Campbell, with guest in-studio Godfrey Augustine & Beverley Sinclair were all embroiled in a bitter feud with each other.
I was rather surprised at some of the comments made by Mr Augustine and the only person that made real sense was Beverley Sinclair, and while everyone else was being very myopic she wasn’t.
I didn’t know Godfrey was a video forensic expert and I’m wondering if he’s attached to the office of the DPP because he knows too much for his own good.
I’m highly of the opinion that Mr Jacob should be suspended pending an investigation.
