I want to make a comment on the issue of the relationship between the State and our Religious leader.
Whatever I say is in reference to the days of the Grenada Revolution and our churches back in 1979-83.
That the Revolution was destroyed 4 1/2 years later may well have been Divine intervention. Won’t argue that, although the facts, driven perhaps by Divine force, was that it was a simple power struggle.
However, hypocritical and political about everything that we are please remind Bishop Harvey about the separation of Church and State. He would do well to be reminded.
I for one, perhaps the ONLY ONE, do remember one of his first Public acts on coming to Grenada was to urge the MBPM Revo crowd at Ft. George, on October 19th, was not wait for Government to declare the 19th a public holiday.
Do it yourselves, he urged…. I remember, you might choose to forget. I was incensed that a Trinidadian would come here and involve himself in such a thing.
Allyuh Revo types would remember that Bishop Sydney Charles, and Archdeacon Huggins put themselves in great danger by constantly challenging the Human Rights violations and violators, of said Revo.
I know many of you choose to forget about that….. tell him (Harvey) about separation of church and State.
Of course friends of mine from Trinidad who claim to know, remember lots of supporters of the then fashionable Revolution Theology…..!!!!
Basically that was the Communists plan to usurp Governments across the Caribbean and Latin America using the power of the Church.
Once in power as we saw in Grenada, shut down the Catholic News, spy on the Churches and the rest of course is history.
I am not saying or calling names, all I am saying is I, if it’s only me … I WELL REMEMBER….. ONLY TOO WELL.
