Thanks hospital!!!

On June 25th I had an accident, rupturing the thigh muscle from my kneecap.  I was taken to Casualty at the General Hospital, and admitted to Male Surgical Ward, where I underwent an operation, following which my whole leg was encased in a plaster cast which I had to live with for six weeks while at home.

I had my cast taken off on Wednesday, August 7th. Surprisingly it had not been  nearly as itchy as I expected. I think the lining they use may be anti-pruritic.

It’s great to be able to bend my leg. I can’t bend it too much without it hurting but already I’m making progress. I’m allowed to put half my weight on it when standing, also.

Despite certain shortcomings, I have to give full praise to our General Hospital.  Many like to run it down but we are in many ways better off than some developed countries, where waiting lists are so long.

A lot of people go to our hospital with a negative attitude anyway, so naturally they find it reciprocated. They don’t like hospitals in the first place.  One young man on Wednesday at the Outpatients Department with his pants falling off his buttocks kept walking up and down cursing. Eventually he was forced to settle down to what the rest of us were doing, sitting down and patiently waiting.

From such a person as he is, there is no gratitude for the service being offered him. He looks upon it as his right.

Dr. Dragon had stitched my muscle tissue together and repaired damaged fascia. A member of his team is the charming and elegant Dr. Blanchard from Dominica, whom I saw yesterday. She had been assisting Dr. Dragon in the Operating Theatre.

And now I’m being provided with follow-up appointments as well as physiotherapy appointments.

My thanks and appreciation to all who assisted and cared for me from Dr. Gibbs in Casualty at the beginning of the process to Orderly Fraser who cut a “window” in my cast to enable changes of dressings, on the afternoon of my discharge.
