As a retired public officer, I am saddened about what I am now hearing about the Public Workers Union (PWU).
I am convinced that something is wrong in the union after listening to statements made this week at the press conference by one of the Executive members, Mr. Pierre.
This man should know that he is not talking to little boys or fools by trying to sidestep questions about internal strife in the union.
Long before the last PWU elections, the talk on the street is that a group of public officers were in support of one Brian Grimes to replace Rachel Roberts as President of the union.
I even saw a piece of paper with names that were said to be on Grimes slate.
I encountered a number of retired public officers who were quite frankly amazed that Rachel Roberts did not have her own slate in order to get elected onto the Executive persons who are supportive of her.
That was a big mistake by Rachel Roberts as she ended up with an executive that had a much different agenda to her.
I have been in this town a long time now and can sense that there is a communist group working against the PWU similar to how the RMC set upon Comrade Maurice Bishop.
A particular name is being mentioned as a person with a personal agenda who is dead set against Rachel Roberts.
The individual is due to retire soon from the service and is working with the anti-Roberts forces to try and get the job of Executive Secretary of the union on retirement.
Miss Roberts, I have been around union business for a long time and the only thing that you can do in the current situation is to go back to the union membership and bring all the issues out to them and allow them to decide on the way forward.
There is no way that you can continue to run the union with all those forces who are now lined up against you.
If the Comrade Leader had gone to the people and let them in on what the RMC and Coard was trying to do against him he might have been alive today.
Sister Roberts, too much is at stake for public workers for the union to fall into the wrong hands.
The communists who are now in bed with NNP are against PWU and GUT as the 25% gratuity and payment issue can cripple the government in the upcoming general election.
These communists cannot go back to NDC and have no way else to run and hide and are working behind the scene to sabotage PWU for their own personal gains.
Sister Roberts, do the honourable thing and go back to the membership for guidance on how to deal with the current situation in the union.
Your fellow executive member was not convincing at the press conference and was all over the place when the female reporter from GBN was questioning him on why the President was not at the meeting.
Miss Roberts, I also listened to you on GBN on Monday night and only laughed when you side-stepped the question on problems inside the union.
If nothing is wrong then all you had to say is that things are pretty inside the PWU. The way you avoided the question tells me that something is wrong in a union that I was so actively involved with for most of my years as a public officer.
