Possible HIV outbreak in Gouyave

I have lived in Gouyave all my life and I am very proud of our many accomplishments. I must say at times there are things that happen that I am not so proud of from time to time. Recently, there is a growing talk about a young lady in the parish and it has many persons and families uneasy.

This young lady who is said to be a former educator of sorts who has seemed to become a drug addict since her behaviour is difficult to explain. She is short, slim and dark in complexion and appears to carry herself well in the public domain.

Many say this is where the problem lies and this is why many are getting caught and drawn into her trap because she appears decent in public which presents a false sense of security for many men resulting in potential serious danger for both men in the town of Gouyave and by extension Grenada.

The young lady in question frequents many bars in the town of Gouyave and has been seen with several different men at these bars. One bar owner indicated that he has never seen anyone who degrades themselves so much. He remarked that men will come at the bar pick her up and then drop her back after an hour or so, with a guest house in the town of Gouyave being her main place for her promiscuous activities. She drinks uncontrollably and then resort to her act of what many term as prostitution.

What an adult does with his or her time is their business, but the alarming part is that it is now alledgedly reported that she is HIV positive. This is scaring the hell out of many people especially in the town of Gouyave. One person said that over the last three months she has been seen with at least 11 different partners including a foreigner, apart from those that are picking her up from the various bars. What is even more frightening is that she has a partner whom she lives with.

While we focus on Covid, HIV could be very rampant due to the recklessness of this young lady. It is said that she has two young children including a young girl of secondary school age and persons are concerned about the impact this will have on them since may claim they are exposed to her behaviour.

The town of Gouyave is very uneasy at the moment and therefore persons who have gotten in contact with this young lady should get tested for HIV immediately. Those who are unaware should also be very cautious in approaching this young lady who can’t be much more than 30 years of age.

I write this in the public’s interest, especially in the interest of the people of Gouyave. Imagine a man bringing home HIV to his partner or partners and how this can spread like wild fire.

Many are also asking why doesn’t the police intervene since many have said persons whom she has had encounters with come to various bars and boast of having to pay as little as $60 for sexual favours from this young lady. This is indeed prostitution which based on my knowledge is illegal in Grenada. Then there is the issue of the spreading of HIV. Many seem to believe that her behaviour isn’t normal while others claim that she has been involved in this type of behaviour for a very long time.

Whatever the case I am asking persons who have been involved with this young lady, to get tested as the fear is growing and panic is creeping in. Her current partner is said to be someone who recently returned from the USA and lives in the St. Mark area. I am also calling on the relevant authorities to step in promptly before we have another crisis on our hand.
