Now we the people know the candidates and the election date. The campaign is “heating up” as these candidates seek to convince we the people why we should vote for their party/for them.
Permit me to share the following observations/queries/comments with you
Last Minute Candidates: Why are certain candidates being chosen almost last minute by their party?
St. Andrew’s North-east: Mr. Roderick St. Clair was the Senator representing the Agriculture, Fisheries and related sector in the Senate. One was aware that Mr. St. Clair engaged his constituents (the stakeholders of the sector he represented) and one could look forward to his informed presentations in the Senate.
He has also done significant work in respect of value added products from various parts of the nutmeg and these offers enhance the agri-tours offered in Beaulieu and Victoria, St. Mark’s.
Mr. St. Clair entered the NDC race to represent the North-east St. Andrew’s constituency. Has Mr. St. Clair taken some time off from his duties as General Manager of the Grenada Co-operative Nutmeg Association?
Destruction of Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development institute (CARDI) Research Station: It is most uncharacteristic that we the people have not heard any statement from the farmers representative, Mr. St. Clair on this matter.
- Regional Institution: CARDI is part of a regional institution established in 1975 – 50 years of research work.
- Relocation? What is the cost of CARDI’s relocation? Where will be its new location?
- Replacement: Or will CARDI be shut down to be replaced by the Chinese Agricultural Mission?
- Conflict of Interest: Was Mr. St. Clair’s duty/interest to represent the farmers’ interest on this CARDI issue clashing with his interest in becoming an elected Member of Parliament representing the NDC?
Burn Pan Scrapings/Scraps
- Campaign Conduct: He portrays himself as the NDC Campaign Man, the one who feels he could say what he wants, how he wants, when he want. I heard him on his morning programme on Thursday, October 8th describing the Leader of Opposition as the scraps and scrapings that were left at the bottom of the burn pan in reference to her party’s decision to choose her as Party Leader.
- It is amazing how he spent more than half the time repeating this description of the Leader of the Opposition.
- Gutter Level: It is amazing that in 2026 that some in Grenada, in the NDC party, should find it necessary to DESCEND to this GUTTER level to describe a political adversary and PROUDLY communicate it to the world.
- It is also DISRESPECT to we the electorate!! Whatever one thinks of the Leader or the decision-making process of her party, this gutter language is UNACCEPTABLE public campaign conduct.
Party Chairperson/Former Minister: The Party Chair is a woman and also former Minister. We the people recall her efforts and focus during her tenure to advance the cause of women in Grenada – gender equality and equity; economic empowerment; protection from violence – among other priorities. What an embarrassment!
* Earlier this year, in May 2026, at the 40th Assembly of Delegates, the Party Chair/then Minister, was elected to be one of the three Vice Presidents to lead the Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM) of the Organisation of American States (OAS) for the 2026 – 2029 period.
* Is this how her party is presenting itself? She has a LOT of work to do!!
