GULP – Hands in unity to reach our destiny

Fellow Grenadians:

Undoubtedly, we are living in unprecedented times. Our country and the entire world are experiencing a pandemic of epic proportions. It is said that tough times make tough people and as Grenadians we tackle life head on with the assurance that God is our father.

As the songwriter penned, “O God our help in ages past, our hope for years to come” Yes, we have the hope that he will see us through this health crisis.

A country’s greatest resource is its citizens and during this time Grenada’s human resources have taken a hard blow. Today, the management of the Grenada United Labour Party (GULP) extends thanks to our frontline workers, who have fervently fought this unseen enemy for almost two years. Going to work during this COVID-19 pandemic has placed our frontline workers under immense and unprecedented pressure, putting their physical, mental and social well-being at risk. For this we say, thank you.

GULP extends condolences to the families and friends who were affected by the COVID-related deaths associated to our “first wave” of the virus. We pray that you’re comforted by their memories.

GULP empathises with the workers who have been affected by the indiscriminate acts of employers, placing them on the breadline. Given the urgent and rapidly evolving nature of the pandemic, this period requires leadership that will harness unity with all stakeholders-patients, medical practitioners, pharmacists, private sector, youth, retirees etc. These decisions must be guided however by the principles of law and respect for rights and freedoms outlined in the Grenada Constitution.

Let’s continue to follow established protocols that have proven to work globally. This may sound like a broken record but let’s wash our hands; sanitize; social distance and wear a mask. It’s imperative if we are to return to some form of normalcy sooner than later.

Remember, “heads, hearts and hands in unity to reach our destiny.…. as one people, one family, God bless our nation.”

We are resilient, we will bounce back.
