Some proverbs : “ You can hide food but not news,”“What is hidden in the dark eventually comes to light”, are applicable to what has been/is taking place in the Keith Mitchell administration, as it is manifesting daily now.
The latest is what was termed “scandalous” by one media outlet. When one think about it, one is left dumbfounded.
In recent time this administration headed by the Statistician, Minister of Finance , Prime Minister of Grenada, The Rt.Hon Keith Claudius Mitchell, whose administration enacted The Fiscal Responsibility Law (RFL) with the view of better controlling the revenue, which was/is extracted in the various forms from salaries/wages of the workers; the numerous burdensome taxes along with the suspension of the rights of the workers to seek better salaries/wages, the continued denial of the payment of Pension and Gratuity to employees who joined the service after 1983, as entrenched in the Grenada Constitution, the highest law of the land.
All of which have made the administration to gain funds, enable them to boast of major improvement in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Yes, there has been growth, but a question which pops up ever so often is where is the money going? Where do their priority lie?
It is evident now more than before, where it has been/is going. A clear indication was expressed in the media, sub-headlined “History has a way of absolving us.” The information therein with others published over the years and some not published are well known by many who have Grenada at heart.
The fact that our Prime Minister has acknowledged that the Cell Phone Scandal has taken place under his watch is most heart rending. $352,650.03 in cell phone bills over just three months as outlined is outrageous. When you think of it, April, May and June 2019 one ought to ask, what was/is the cost to the taxpayers for the period March 2018 to March 2019 when undoubtedly those same persons among them NNP activists prostituted the taxpayers of Grenada? Does the Fiscal Space provide for such?
The hue and cry continue daily of the need to improve Health Services, Education, Agriculture, Road Maintenance, the need to improve facilities of the Judiciary, government buildings among others. Little has been/is being done to remedy those situations, yet taxpayers are made to pay for mismanagement and the corruption of this administration.
Eric Matthew Gairy once said: “Demonstrations don’t move me”. This Prime Minister may very well be showing that accusation of corruption in his government and inquires mean nothing to him. Do you recall my recent question, “Where are we heading?” Do these revelations point the way? When will it end?
