After reading last weekend’s NEW TODAY, I really feel sorry for our Prime Minister as the man is not learning and making mistake after mistake in office.
The Prime Minister was out of order to describe as “frivolous” a lawsuit filed in the United States by someone against the latest set of developers brought into the country by NNP.
The case has not been heard but Dr. Mitchell has already determined it and ruled in favour of the Range Developments people.
The NNP has two lawyers in the Cabinet, Hon. Peter David and Hon. Kendra and both of them should counsel their leader on refraining from making comment of such a nature on a matter that is now in the court system.
There is a certain big word they call that but I cannot spell it but I think you all know what I mean because if you make such comments on a case then you can be charged for contempt of court.
When the Doc behaves in that manner, he will never get people to trust him on legal matters and that is why the people rejected the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) out of fear in the referendum.
Even the NNP supporters voted against the CCJ because they didn’t trust their own leader with the court system.
Such an unfortunate statement from Dr. Keith will result in people thinking that he wants to speak to the court and decide on cases long before the judges hear them.
The NNP leader has got it so wrong on court matters over the years but still not learning to keep his mouth shut on things that do not concern him.
Look what happened a few months ago when he praised the new Attorney-General from Guyana as a man who will be coming to the job with “superior skills” to those who were there before in government service like Cajeton Hood and Dwight Horsford.
The said Darshan Ramdhani has lost all the big cases in court from government against Grenlec and recently the Bristol lawyer put on a licking on him in court on another big court matter.
Dr. Keith is not learning after almost 30 years in office to keep his mouth shut since he is a total stranger to law.
Our Prime Minister should first consult Queen’s Counsel Dr. Francis Alexis on what to say and what not to say on future legal matters.
