Criticism is healthy for democracy, and as a party whose middle name is “Democratic”, the NDC must be prepared for its share. Since joining the NDC in 2013, I have observed that many supporters and even some members, believe that talk radio and social media are the best avenues for airing grievances and making criticisms against the party. We must never infringe on people’s right to freedom of expression but just as Skinny Banton, ah have to release something from me chest.
To hear some of our friendly critics, one would believe that Grenada’s biggest problems stem from NDC’s perceived sins of omission, rather than NNP’s crimes of commission. There is a constant public barrage of negativity aimed at the NDC from people who no doubt mean well. What these supporters don’t realise is that the only beneficiaries of this approach are Keith and his band.
The task of freeing Grenada from this mafia-style government is one for all patriotic Grenadians, not just the NDC. We all have children who will continue to suffer from the corruption and ineptitude of the NNP. What we need more than anything is to join forces to take down the green machine for the good of our homeland.
NDC is not perfect and will make mistakes. We do not have a monopoly on good ideas, neither does anyone else. If another individual or group highlights government’s corruption, wastage or bias, this should be seen as one more voice in the struggle, not as points scored against NDC.
Our leaders and soldiers are doing what many are afraid of or unwilling to do: risk our livelihoods to tackle the machine.
Those who wish to see a Grenada based on justice and equal opportunities must rally around this common interest. It is not good enough to stay in the safety of the pavilion and shout, “hit de ball, boy”. Become an active player!
I challenge those who only see the shortcomings to be brave and call Shaggy, Andre and GBN, when the paid NNP stooges call in with their lies and propaganda. Join a demonstration against the many abuses of the NNP, such as cellgate, shrimpgate and stimulusgate. Use your influence on social media to expose the bias of certain media outlets and personnel. Lend your expertise in PR, marketing and other fields, to the struggle. Make a financial contribution.
Fighting among friends only strengthens the enemy. Friends and family handle their issues behind closed doors. With all of NNP’s misdeeds, none of their supporters or surrogates ever mouths off against their leader or party in public.
They understand that doing so could only undermine confidence in the party.
