A people who have no knowledge of their history and culture
Is like a tree with no roots
And a tree with no roots is indeed a dead tree.
We must all embrace our history with pride and dignity.
Ultimately you might live to regret
If you conveniently try to forget.
Be aware of the history of La Sagesse.
La Sagesse has an intrigued history
Dated far back, as the 16th century.
In 1650
The first British Settlers
Settled in La Sagesse
Yes! Right here in La Sagesse.
And after four centuries
Lord Brownlow been British
Might have studied his history
Because Brownlow wanted exclusive control of La Sagesse beach.
Like his predecessors who were Colonizers
He came
He saw
And he taught he had conquered
But this was never going to be.
Because simplicity must never be interpreted as stupidity.
If you didn’t know
Then you should get to know.
The people back then was no pappy show
Their action spoke louder than words.
They came out in their numbers
From all over Grenada.
And vehemently demonstrated their displeasure
Against Lord Brownlow’s pompous behaviour.
Lord Brownlow wanted to restrict access to our beach
How dear he attempted doing something like this?
It must be made abundantly clear.
That absolutely no beach in Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique
Is and shall never be private.
God forbid this.
We the people have free access to every single beach.
It’s God’s gift to us
And no one should try to take it away from us or deny us.
This is absolutely serious.
Little did Lord Brownlow know?
That we were not accepting what he was doing.
And he was in for a rude awakening
We the people would have none of his restriction foolishness.
We wanted access to our beach and that’s it.
Freedom of the beach we wanted
And that’s what we chanted
The gate Brownlow erected was disintegrated
Completely smashed down to the ground
And the beach he commanded was truly liberated.
By we the people,
We the brave and proud people.
I can vividly recall that historic and memorable Sunday
When almost everyone in attendance
Swarm with all their clothes on.
In total jubilation and liberation.
Free at last, free at last
Brownlow can kiss where the sun never shine.
Presently we must all pay attention to what is going on.
We cannot play blind.
We must all be active participants.
Since we all welcome development.
Development that would generate meaningful employment
Not that of destroying our environment
Bombarded with well-phrased and amplified speeches
Packed with endless promises
Promises and still more promises.
In reality it’s a contradiction in motion
Since they are destroying a unique and an outstanding Eco-Tourism site
While at the same time, they are promoting Eco-Tourism
Tourism the engine of economic growth
Oh! How we constantly brag and boast.
But Tourism development cannot and must not be in isolation
Development for us
Must also include us.
No Developer must be left to do whatever and whenever.
Regardless of their financial empire.
This is still Grenada.
And we are in nobody’s backyard
We are in our front yard
And we have a right to know, how things go.
We are not voiceless
And we should never be voiceless
Despite those who can’t careless and behaving reckless.
We the people
Must stand up and voice our concern.
Not later, but right now and without a doubt.
Let us forever be mindful of our patrimony
And priceless legacy.
If we fail to take a firm stand
We can soon become foreigners
In our own land.
Bombarded by restriction/barrication/notification
In-decision/change of plan
Ultimate destruction of our sacred land.
This land is your land
This land is my land
La Sagesse! Sweet-Sweet La Sagesse
In context
History in contest.
Sac e tan, pa lay lut
Who hear tell others?
Ah word to the wise is sufficient.
Mur-ca- allay. I gone.
