Concacaf unveils opening Nations League match-ups

Concacaf have released the schedule and venues for the first round group stage matches in the 2019-2020 Concacaf Nations League that will see 34 matches for Leagues A, B and C played in the September 2019 international window.

It is the first time that all 41 member associations have participated in an official Concacaf tournament.

12 nations who competed in the expanded 16-team Gold Cup will be in action. Mexico, USA, Costa Rica and Honduras, who are all top ranked in the three team League A groups, will start their campaigns in the October and November windows.

Cuba, who struggled at the Gold Cup, will play their home games outside of the country after their domestic facilities failed to reach hosting standards. They play face Canada in their opening League A match on September  7 before ‘hosting’ the Canadians in the Cayman Islands three days later. It is a rematch of their Gold Cup group contest in June which Canada won 7-0 in Charlotte.

Other notable League A match-ups will see whether Bermuda can maintain their Gold Cup progress against Panama, while the Caribbean will see Trinidad and Tobago, desperate to rebuild after a disappointing Gold Cup campaign, face Martinique who debuted a new coach and philosophy in June that looked to be bearing fruit at the end of their Gold Cup group stages.
