Grenada Public Workers’ Union (GPWU) is deeply concerned about the arbitrary interrogation of Brother Jude Bartholomew, President of the Grenada Union of Teachers (GUT), by members of the RGPF at the St. David Police Station on Saturday April 24th, 2021, in regards to a union activity on April 7th, 2021.
While we are aware of the times we exist in regarding the global pandemic, the Trade Union Movement has strived successfully to maintain safety protocols while stoutly defending the rights of our membership and the enshrined right to freedom of association.
The GPWU is keenly aware of actions by the authorities to intimidate workers into withdrawing their constitutional rights to associate and protest. These rights are pellucidly stated under Section 1 (b) of the Grenada Constitution Order of 1973.
Predicated on the aforementioned facts, the Grenada Public Workers’ Union is calling on its members to wear red or union jerseys as a show of solidarity with Bro. Bartholomew and the GUT and also as a symbol of struggle against the illegal withholding of our four (4) percent increase for 2021.
