In speaking to the students at the Scholarship ceremony, NEXA’s General Manager, Retesha Smith-Boyd, encouraged them to embrace this opportunity and focus on their studies during their time at TAMCC. She highlighted that this assistance is aimed at reducing some of the financial burden on parents while providing support for students to attend TAMCC who may otherwise not be able to fund the additional cost of attending the college. Mrs. Smith-Boyd added, “NEXA Credit Union has a rich history of supporting the educational advancement of students and will continue to do so.”
Previously, NEXA had provided the TAMCC scholarship to Grenadian students to cover their tuition, which assisted in reducing the costs of their academic endeavours. With the implementation of the Free Tuition Programme Policy by the Government of Grenada, the Credit Union thought it was essential to continue the scholarship program. Rather than covering tuition costs, NEXA’s TAMCC Scholarship will fund other academic expenses such as books, school supplies, and even travel and meal expenses.
The Credit Union is committed to education and youth advancement, as it was established by teachers. Moreover, education provides students with opportunities to succeed and achieve their goals. The TAMCC scholarship is available to members and non-members, emphasising the Credit Union’s holistic commitment to the tri-island state. The successful applicants were evaluated based on their academic performance, financial need and an essay outlining their future goals. Since its inception, NEXA’s scholarship and grant programmes have allowed many students to pursue their academic goals at the secondary and tertiary levels.
