The Bank and General Workers Union condemns the current treatment of workers at Aviation Services of Grenada Ltd by their Employer and publicly calls on the Management of Aviation Services Grenada Ltd to do all within their power to avoid a further deterioration of Industrial Relations at the Airport and inconvenience or disruption to the travelling public.
On December 29, 2020, eighteen (18) permanent workers of ASG received notice of layoff effective January 1, 2021, just two (2) days before the actual lay off took effect, with no information regarding their re- employment date.
Six (6) workers have been laid off by the company since April 1, 2020 with no source of income. Additionally, sixteen (16) workers were severed by the Company around December 11, 2020.
Workers are currently working for a fraction of their monthly salaries since April 1, 2020. Some workers are also complaining of unfair layoff practices.
The current situation at Aviation Services of Grenada Ltd is negatively impacting the lives of workers and their families. Despite the best effort of the Bank and General Workers Union to have these matters amicably resolved, the Company by way of email on January 7, 2021is refusing to meet the Union, which we believe can lead to an escalation of the Industrial climate at the workplace.
