Earlier this year CIBC FirstCaribbean announced their commitment to their annual cancer awareness and fundraising event, across the region, Walk for the Cure (WFTC). Whilst awaiting approval from the relevant authorities for the proposed physical aspects of the event in Grenada, and in the face of temporary branch closures and limited personnel, bank staff remained determined to play their part.
Internally, the team implemented a number of fundraising and awareness initiatives such as; Tips Mondays, Dress for the Cure Wednesdays, Jeans Fridays, Cupcake Sales, Tannia Log & Chicken & Bake Sales.
CIBC FirstCaribbean’s Country Manager, Andre Cadogan stated; “in spite of having to close the branches for alternate weeks during the tremendous spike in Covid – 19 positive cases, we are proud to be pushing forward with this regional brand event. The team at the bank, although facing some obvious set-backs, have continued to show their full commitment to supporting the cause and our partners, the Grenada Cancer and Pink Ribbon Societies.”
Unable to hold its much anticipated annual ‘physical walk’, CIBC FirstCaribbean has the month of October packed full of fundraising and awareness activities to support the Walk for the Cure initiative and its recipient organisations.
Walk for the Cure Manager, Debra Mason, said; “understanding the restrictions and the reasons we cannot proceed with the planned physical aspects of the ‘walk’, we recognise that the ethos and momentum behind the ‘Walk for the Cure’ initiative is bigger than any of this, bigger than us. We have adjusted our plans, but our goal to raise awareness, and funds to support the cause along with our partners, the Grenadian public and the corporate community, remains completely undeterred”.
“We would especially like to invite the public to support us on October 29th, Pink It Out Friday, by wearing pink to show their support; for cancer sufferers, survivors, their families and caregivers,” she concluded.
Walk for the Cure T-Shirts can be purchased at CIBC FirstCaribbean branches, where donations to the cause can also be made in-branch or via Online Banking using the 1st Pay option. Funds raised with the much appreciated support from event sponsors, sales of the official event T-shirts and the bank’s internal fundraising activities, will be donated to the Grenada Cancer Society and Pink Ribbon Society.
