Tobias Clement speaks out again

Tobias Clement

Member of Parliament for St. George North-east, Tobias Clement has put out the following statement on the current coronavirus situation in the country and his efforts to be appointed as the official Opposition Leader in Her Majesty’s Parliament

‘While warehouses at the port are filled, shops household are empty’

Sisters and brothers, more than a week ago I requested of the Governor General the instrument of appointment to the very important office, the office of the leader of Her Majesty Opposition. I await such
appointment. However, while waiting, I thought it prudent to again raise some important issues.

Sisters and brothers, remember that this appointment is not about me and there couldn’t be a better time for me to make this request.

At this critical time government must be held accountable for all decisions that are made whether good or bad. Decisions that are made can be a matter of life or death for some people. Above all things, it is the lives of our sisters and brothers that matters, the lives of our citizens. Everything that is done must be done with their health and wellbeing in mind.

The wellbeing of our less fortunate must be first and foremost. While warehouses at the port are filled, shops household are empty. I impress on the government that our less fortunate must be given priority in any relief package. Many of our people will not be able to come out on Saturday to shop for both religious and financial reasons.

This situation must be expeditiously addressed.

Again, let me thank our people for adhering to the safety guidelines established, and for neighbours helping neighbours our Grenadian spirit. To the first responders, our nurses and doctors, the police officers, without doubt the nation’s gratitude goes out to you.

To the people who work behind the scenes to make things happen, the distribution agencies, shopkeepers and farmers who work tirelessly to deliver food as quickly as possible, may God continue to guide and protect you.

A special thank you to SGU, Windref, CARPHA, and PAHO, we are eternally grateful for your support and guidance.

I continue to urge all our people to adhere to the guidelines and keep safe. And, may God bless our nation.
