THE NEW TODAY has been able to obtain a copy of the letter in which Catholic Bishop Clyde Harvey suspended his outspoken priest Fr. Gerard Paul for the second time within the past three weeks.
The letter was hand delivered to Paul on Saturday by Terry Registe, one of the most senior court bailiffs on the island.
The two clergymen in the Roman Catholic Church have been engaged in a war of words following Paul’s criticisms of the church for its alleged silence on Israel’s alleged acts of genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza.
The priest lashed out at his Bishop over the suspension and recalled Harvey’s own actions in Trinidad & Tobago when he staged a one-man protest against the appointment of another priest to a high office in Port-of-Spain.
According to Fr. Paul, no one suspended Harvey back then for his open defiance of Rome’s decision to make the appointment by carrying placards and allegedly refusing to walk into the ceremony with the other priests.
