A Marian, St. George’s man has found himself in legal limbo after being arrested and charged on the weekend with the indictable offence of Rape involving a 14-year-old girl.
Dwayne Mc Sween, 40, was remanded to the Richmond Hill Prison on a Rape charge when he appeared before a St. George’s Magistrate in connection with the alleged incident that occurred in the Marian, St. George’s Community last week Wednesday.
Unconfirmed reports are that the crime was allegedly committed as the under-aged victim made her way home from school.
THE NEW TODAY understands that Mc Sween had reportedly threatened the school girl in an attempt to silence her.
However, the police were notified and alerted to the alleged incident and he now faces a maximum penalty of 30 years imprisonment if convicted of the offence.
Mc Sween, who was not represented by legal counsel on the occasion of his first court appearance, is scheduled to reappear before the court on May 10.
His apprehension follows another recent incident involving a St. Andrew man who is facing sexual assault and causing harm charges committed against an 8-year-old girl.
Approximately two weeks ago, the Special Victims Unit of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) expressed concern about increased sex crimes against minors, disclosing that it had already received nine reports since the start of the year.
The RGPF has not issued any official bulletin regarding the two (2) alleged incidents, which bring the number of reported Sexual crimes to 11.
Sexual crimes make up 42% of the 79 matters down for adjudication in the current Assizes.
