Another Grenadian has excelled academically at Western Illinois University in the United States.
She is Sierra Duncan, the daughter of Rachael Duncan and niece of former Managing Director of the Grenada Co-operative Bank Limited, Richard Duncan and Dr. Ralph Duncan.
She left the island in late July 2021 to pursue studies at Western Illinois to pursue a Degree in Economics which she claims is her passion.
Within six months, the young Grenadian student was able to make it onto the Dean’s List of Scholars for the Fall Semester 2021.
Sierra is a former student of St. Joseph’s Convent, St. George’s and the T.A. Marryshow Community College (TAMCC).
A citation from the College of Business and Technology of the university said: Congratulations on your superior performance during the Fall 2021 Semester. As a result of your achievement, your name is included on the Dean’s List of Scholars for the College of Business and Technology.
“We are pleased to have a quality student like you in the College of Business and Technology at Western Illinois University. Your scholarship and leadership enhance the quality of our Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the entire University. In addition, you are advancing your personal and professional future through your high standards. You can take pride in your outstanding academic performance.”
In a brief statement to THE NEW TODAY, the student said, “I have to do my best; I owe it to my mom, my family and myself.”
Sierra is currently featured in the International Leatherneck Newsletter for February, 2022.
One of her favourite quotes is from Denzel Washington which she emulates: “Without commitment you would never start; without consistency you would never finish.”
