Under pressure from the Grenada government to vaccinate its workforce, Sandals Grenada Resort is taking steps to fall in line with the order.
THE NEW TODAY has obtained the copy of a letter sent by General Manager of the resort, Peter Fraser announcing the plans by Sandals to lay-off workers until they can show proof that they are fully vaccinated.
On July 6, Acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Shawn Charles wrote Fraser warning him that action will be taken against Sandals if immediate steps are not taken to ensure that there was 100% vaccination of its staff in keeping with government’s Covid-19 protocols for the tourism sector.
The CMO expressed concern over the fact that just over 50% of the workforce at the resort had been fully vaccinated.
Sandals has now bowed to the pressure and sent out letters to employees indicating that those who are not vaccinated will be laid-off without pay until they can bring in their vaccination cards as proof.
One of the affected workers told THE NEW TODAY that all unvaccinated workers were summoned by the Human Resource Manager, Stephanie Sylvester to a meeting on Thursday to discuss “our vaccination status since receiving our letter from the Ministry of Health”.
According to the worker, she has underlying health issues and would prefer to be given options when taking a vaccine for Covid-19.
Grenada has only the AstraZeneca vaccine on the market.
