This weekend, the Roots Calypso Tent will officially launch its highly anticipated Calypso season.

The first show, set to take place at Marlmount Big Yard in St. David on Saturday evening starting from 7.00 p.m. promises to be a spectacular event, featuring a 17-member cast of seasoned performers and rising stars.

Reigning Calypso Monarch Rootsman Kelly will lead the charge, joined by former monarch Sour Serpent, Small Axe, and Top Cat – all formerly associated with the renowned St. Andrew-based Kaiso Bards Tent, which is led by 10 times Calypso Monarch Scholar.

The lineup also features Grenada’s reigning Carnival Queen, Amonai Francis, who will perform alongside fellow female artists Royalty, Myney, and Mini Axe – the youngest performer and daughter of Small Axe.

Other members of the Roots Calypso Tent include the singing sensation Super Flying Flint, the dynamic Quick Silver from Carriacou, and the versatile Sheldon Douglas.

Audiences can also look forward to performances by Croqueta, Innocent, Young Sound, Grenada Michael Jackson, Jah Glory, and Robert Whyte, who will be making his debut on the Calypso scene.

Tickets for Saturday’s launch are priced at $20, and for those unable to attend in person, a Pay-Per-View option is available at [tiziq.com](https://tiziq.com/event/launch-of-roots-calypso-tent).

“Marlmont Big Yard would be the place to be on Saturday (and) based on the response from people who have pledged their support we expect a packed big yard. I think everyone of us as artiste on this cast are capable of pulling in many fans…the cast is so powerful that it speaks for itself. So, I am really excited about the launch,” Roots declared in an interview on Thursday.

The 2023 Monarch, who has already released his defending songs for this year’s national competition, has announced plans for the tent to have at least four to five shows throughout the island during the highly anticipated Carnival season.
