Answer: There is no new financing timeline and no new estimated cost of the project. The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) has advised that the financing provided by the United Kingdom CIF is no longer available. The original cost of the project was USD $52M.

Answer: Grant financing of $1.0M Pounds for Technical Assistance to undertake the 2 designs and $6M USD to finance the construction phase.

What is the time frame for the completion of the project?
Answer: The project has experienced delays which are attributed to the constant deterioration in existing soil conditions at the site. The estimated timeframe for completion is the first quarter of 2024.

Have new surveys been conducted?
Answer: Yes, to examine the extent of the deterioration that has occurred and continued to occur. The Bureau of Standards has performed several probes of the soil in the area to ascertain any degradation to the piles in place from the original design, as well as inform the revised design solution.
Are there any changes of the plans and designs of the project?
Answer: Changes are currently needed to adjust to the existing ground conditions have deteriorated.
Design modifications are being prepared.
If yes, what are these changes?
Answer: The movement of the material at the upper slope has required the upper bank to be stabilized. This will be done via a geomembrane that will be placed on the surface that will reduce the impact of the elements, as well as provide support to the soil. To re-establish the roadway, additional piling will be done to create a stable foundation for the elevated road deck which will be supported by a reinforced concrete structure. This will negate the effects of any debris that may potentially have an impact on the proper functioning of the road after it is reopened. Also, works to stabilize the area downslope of the road will take place with a similar solution to that of the upslope.

Answer: The new design will see the construction of a dual carriageway, reinforced concrete bridge, with pedestrian walkways. Works to complete the remaining river walls will also be completed as part of this package. Works to River Road will be done in a subsequent package.
