Questions for the NDC administration

Sen. Roderick St Clair – submitted several questions to government in the Upper House of Parliament

Grenada’s 6-month old National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration has been called upon to provide answers for a number of acts that took place under the defeated New National Party (NNP) government of former Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell.

Representative for Farmers and fisherfolks in the Senate, Roderick St. Clair is seeking answers from the Leader of Government’s Business in the Upper House, Senator Adrian “Persuader” Thomas on the deal that was struck by the former regime and private sector concerns over one state-owned estate and the Agro-processing facility at La Sagesse.

Following are the questions sent to the Clerk of Parliament:-

Question # 1 (Unanswered at the Sitting of October 11, 2022)

Please inform this Honourable House on the government’s lease arrangement pertaining to the Bellevue Estate, in Bellevue, St. Andrew.

(a). To whom or which company is the Bellevue Estate in Bellevue, St. Andrew leased?

(b). What is the duration of the lease and how much more years is remaining on the lease?

(c).   How many acres of land are covered under the lease?

(d). What are the monetary terms and conditions pertaining to the lease?

(e).   Is the lease’s performance of the terms of the lease satisfactory?

(f). If not, what are the plans of this governing administration to deal with the situation?

Please provide this Honourable House on the government’s lease arrangement pertaining to the La Sagesse Agro-processing facility, located in La Sagesse, St. David.

(a). To whom or which company is the La Sagesse Agro-Processing facility located on La Sagesse, St. David leased?

(b). What is the duration of the lease and how much more years is remaining on the lease?

(c).   What are the monetary terms and conditions pertaining to the lease?

(d). Is the lease’s performance of the terms of the lease satisfactory?

(e). If not, what are the plans of this governing administration to deal with the situation?

Please inform this Honourable House on the status of the Praedial Larceny Fund pursuant with Section 17 of the Praedial Larceny Act (Act No. 5 of 2005).

(a). Is the Praedial Larceny fund in existence and operational?

(b). If yes, then:

(I).   On what date was this fund operationalised?

(II). What was the dollar value in the Praedial Larceny Fund as of August 31st 2022?

(III). What was the dollar value of the last deposit that was caused to be paid into the Praedial Larceny Fund and on what date was this transaction?

(IV).   What was the dollar value of the last monies that were caused to be paid out from the Praedial Larceny Fund and on what date was this transaction?

Question pertaining to Sargassum:

Please inform the Senate on the government’s plans for addressing the sargassum invasion of our shores that are affecting our fisherfolks and seamoss farmers in particular.

Question pertaining to CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora):

Please inform the Senate as to government’s plans for Grenada to become compliant with CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) agreement such that Grenada will be allowed to export conch (Lambie) and our divers can be able to improve their income.

Question pertaining to membership of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO):

Considering the significance of the United Nations intergovernmental organisation, the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) relative to climate and weather forecasting, please inform the Senate on the following.

(a). Has the government considered becoming a member of the World Meteorological Organisation?

(b). If yes, please provide information on the plans or roadmap to achieving membership.

(c). If no, please provide information as to the government’s decision to not consider joining.
