NDC is ready

Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell congrats Niecal Joseph (St Andrew North-east) who on Monday night was selected as the final Candidate by NDC for the upcoming general election

…. Parliament Ends Today

Today, Friday, October 2, 2026 marks the end of the life of the Grenada Parliament as Governor General Dame Cecile La Grenade has received instructions from Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell to dissolve the law-making body.

It brings to an end the 42-years of service of the island’s longest serving elected Member of Parliament Keith Mitchell who first won his St George North-west seat in 1984 on the ticket of the New National Party (NNP).

Dr Mitchell has told Grenadians that he will not be seeking another term in office in the upcoming general election in which the date would be announced Sunday by Dickon Mitchell at a mass rally to be held by Congress in St Mark.

During the past week, hundreds of locals have been flocking to the 15 Registration offices in the various constituencies to meet today’s deadline to register to take part in the upcoming general election.

The Prime Minister has been calling on Grenadians who are not yet registered to vote to complete the process as Friday will be the final day for registration before Parliament is dissolved.

“Friday of this week is the last day for registration, and the simple reason being Parliament will be dissolved on Friday, and once Parliament is dissolved, the writ for holding elections will be put in place by the Governor-General and, therefore, means no further registration,” he said.

The NDC has been engaged in a number of political activities islandwide while the main opposition NNP has been doing a series of “Touchdown” sessions in which candidates and party supporters and members engage in house-to-house visits in a specific constituency on Sundays.

The NNP has already selected its full slate of 15 candidates while Congress will do so at the St Mark rally where it will officially launch its general election campaign.

The Prime Minister is confident that NDC will return to power with a bigger margin than the 9-6 victory at the polls in 2022.

“The fact that we announce the date on (October 4) is a clear indication that we’ve been preparing and know what we have. And in a sense, I think we’ve been preparing for the last four years,” he said.

“I think we’ve worked hard. We’ve tried to be accessible, we’ve tried to be accountable, we’ve tried to deliver on the things in our mandate. Now it’s time to go back to the people and get their validation on this,” he added.

The NDC is known to be targeting three key NNP constituencies to defeat it’s candidates – St George North-west, St Mark and St Andrew South-east currently held by the new NNP Leader, former Education Minister Emmalin Pierre.
