Police in Grenada are very tight-lipped about the detention of a male individual associated with the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) for an alleged sex crime
A police insider told THE NEW TODAY that the individual was taken into custody in relation to an investigation into the alleged gang rape of a young female in the St. Andrew area sometime in 2017.
He said that the suspect is currently held at the Grenville Police station for interrogation and that one other person is of interest to the police for taking part in the alleged gang rape of the victim.
According to the source, the individual is not a member of RGPF but is an accountant by profession and is often used by the FIU to help them perform their duties.
The young lady who was allegedly gang-raped is said to be the daughter of a former national cricketer who also played at the test match level for the West Indies.
THE NEW TODAY understands that the female was born in Antigua but was brought to live in Grenada by her father.
Details are very sketchy as to where the alleged gang rape incident took place.
