The Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) has confirmed that a senior civil servant has been arrested and charged with a number of criminal offences.
A police spokesman said that the charges were laid by the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) on 42-year old Dexter Williams who worked for many years in the Ministry of Finance.
He said that Williams who lives at Richmond Hill, St. George was charged with 12 counts of falsification of Accounts and one count of Money Laundering in the sum of $15,719.80ECC.
According to the police spokesman, the offenses were committed while Williams was attached to the Accountant General Department, Ministry of Finance as Staff Accountant between June 2017 and December 2018.
The senior civil servant currently holds the post of Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Williams was placed on $25, 000 bail with 2 sureties and is due to make his first court appearance on October 20.
THE NEW TODAY understands that a senior employee of the state-owned National Water & Sewerage Authority (NAWASA) stood Williams’ bail.
There are also unconfirmed reports that Williams offered to pay back the money but it was turned down.
