Dr. Mitchell reiterates that hoteliers were involved in cheating

Prime Minister Mitchell is also the Minister of Finance

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell has told Parliament that hoteliers did attempt to commit fraud in the payroll support programme unveiled by government to assist displaced employees during the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Prime Minister did give some details of the alleged acts of fraud in a written response to a question sent to him by Opposition Leader, Tobias Clement, the Member of Parliament for St. George North-east constituency.

In his response, Dr. Mitchell pointed out that some hoteliers falsified the salaries paid to some workers especially those at the high end in order to qualify for payment support.

He also said that some hotels did not pass on all of the 40% payment which government made available to their employees.
