Covid-19 suspected suicide

Less than 24-hours after being laid off by a hotel for not taking the Covid-19 vaccine, a 22-year old young lady has committed suicide in the south of the island.

THE NEW TODAY understands that the body of the young female was discovered around midnight by her boyfriend who works at Junction in the Lance Aux Epines area.

“She got laid off yesterday. When the boyfriend went home he met her hanging from the roof,” said a source familiar with the incident.

The suicide victim was living in Calliste close to the camp of the Special Services Unit (SSU) of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF).

The mother of the young lady is said to be residing at Tempe in the St George North-east constituency.

The source could not shed any light at the moment on whether the victim left behind a suicide note.

The incident comes two days after Grenada Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell disclosed that government will not offer compensation for persons who got laid off from the job for refusing to take the Covid-19 vaccine.

Although the ruling New National Party (NNP) administration of Prime Minister Mitchell has ruled out mandatory vaccination legislation, it has been advocating vaccination as a key element in the fight against the deadly virus which has claimed the lives of 202 Grenadians at home.

Police are investigating the incident.
