The German leisure aircraft Condor, is due to resume operations to Grenada on Sunday for the first time since the Coronavirus pandemic grounded flights to the Maurice Bishop International Airport (MBIA) just over two years ago.
An airline industry official told THE NEW TODAY that the airline is due to start back its weekly flight from Frankfurt to the island’s airport in the south of the island with “a brand new aircraft” on the route.
“The flights are virtually full already – that’s a big thing for Grenada,” he said.
According to the official, the capacity of the aircraft is 330 and Grenada is getting over 150 seats on the flight.
“All the flights are pretty good (when it comes) to forward booking – it’s very attractive,” he said.
The previous aircraft used on the route was a 230-seater plane.
The official pointed out that the return of Condor to the Grenada market is good for the island as it provides opportunities for persons from around the world to fly to the island.
He said that a lot of the traffic into Frankfurt includes flights from Lagos in Africa, Bombay in India and Shanghai in China to make connections into Grenada.
He added that Condor has “always been a good one for Grenada” and that the airline is the only carrier offering “non-stop flight to Grenada from Europe.”
THE NEW TODAY understands that on its way back to Germany, the aircraft will make a stopover in Barbados.
The Condor service is seasonal and runs from November to April.
