I am glad – his time has reached.
This was the immediate reaction from a former officer of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) to the gunning down, in the early hours of Thursday, of the notorious 34-year old Arthur Braveboy, who has had many run-ins with law enforcement officials.
Braveboy was shot in a hot spot area in the south of the island, known as “The Bronx” in Frequente, after he was engaged in a discussion with another male.
The shooting incident is suspected to be part of the ongoing feud between rival gangs in the south of the island and rivals from the city.
A few days ago, a police party met with some of the so-called gang leaders to try and broker a peace treaty.
According to the former police officer, the killing of Braveboy should result in “a little peace and tranquility now” as he is suspected to have shot and injured several persons over the years.
A police insider told THE NEW TODAY some of his colleagues visited the St George’s General Hospital following reports of a shooting incident at Frequente just after 2:00 a.m., and visited the Emergency Room where they saw the deceased with blood coming from the back of his head and he appeared to be dead.
The notorious Braveboy was wearing blue jeans, a grey jersey with a white vest, black Nike shoes with a black belt, silver chain, hand band and gold earrings in his ears.
The police insider said that the executed man also had an Adidas bag around his chest and it was clear that there was a wound to the back of his head.
Minutes before the shooting, underworld sources said that Braveboy and his girlfriend were seen at “Bigger” shop in Frequente.
The deceased alighted from a vehicle and was engaged in some kind of a conversation with another man and a gunshot was heard.
“Arthur fall to the ground then (name of gunman withheld) pointed the gun at him, (a man from the Carenage) fired a shot at him,” the eyewitness is quoted as saying.
The Carenage man is said to have received help from an individual to put Braveboy in the vehicle to take him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
THE NEW TODAY understands that the Carenage man discovered that he was also shot after he saw blood coming from his abdomen.
He was spotted with medical dressings on his abdomen, his neck, upper right torso and under his left arm.
The body of Braveboy was taken by Bailey’s Funeral Home after it was positively identified by David Lewis, the male companion of his mother who is a retired cop.
A retired Superintendent of Police recalled that the deceased was often in trouble with the law and had been held in custody by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on several occasions for a number of criminal activities.
He said both parents of the deceased were police officers and blamed one of them in particular for the manner in which he turned out, as a lawbreaker, as that person “had no reasoning for him.”
There are reports that this parent often chastised police officers whenever the son was taken into custody.
About three hours before the shooting of Braveboy, Police were called in to investigate another shooting incident in which the victim was identified as 24-year old Shane Joseph of Frequente.
The injured man was taken to the General Hospital with a wound on his right foot.
Joseph reportedly told police officers that he was shot just after 11:00 p.m. Wednesday night by a man known to be associated with 4-Roads in the capital city of St George.
A source familiar with the incident, said that the victim was already inside his home when he heard persons arguing outside of the house.
He went outside and he saw the person who shot him, along with another individual whose name he gave to the Police, engaged in an argument with his brother Anton Decoteau.
As he approached, the 4-Road man whipped out a gun and fired two shots at him and he realised that he was shot, as blood started to flow from his foot.
There was also a bloody incident on Wednesday in the south of the island in which 68-year old Christopher Mitchell of the Limes was chopped on the left hand.
Mitchell was involved in an argument with another man who used a cutlass to inflict the injury on him.
The victim was treated at the General Hospital and discharged.
