Artificial intelligence (AI) is a set of technologies that enable computers to perform a variety of advanced functions, including the ability to see, understand and translate spoken and written language, analyse data, make recommendations, and more.
It is used today to encompass healthcare diagnostics, fraud detection, customer service chatbots, autonomous robots, predictive maintenance, virtual assistants, content recommendation, autonomous vehicles, language translation, and financial trading algorithms.
An example of Artificial Intelligence in everyday life is virtual personal assistants like Siri or Google Assistant, which help users with tasks and answer questions using natural language processing.
Amazon Alexa is another Artificial Intelligence (AI), powered virtual assistant that uses natural language processing to perform tasks, answer questions, and control smart home devices.
Will AI take over the jobs of public servants?
While AI can significantly automate many repetitive tasks currently done by public servants, like data entry and document processing, it is unlikely to completely take over their jobs; instead, it will likely be used to assist them by streamlining administrative work, answer questions, and control smart home devices allowing them to focus on more complex decision-making and citizen interaction that require human judgment and empathy.
AI can effectively automate routine tasks like application processing, data analysis, and basic customer service inquiries, freeing up public servants’ time for more strategic work. It can also improve efficiency by handling dull tasks that lack interest and excitement. It can lead to faster response times and reduced errors in government operations.
Even with AI assistance, public servants will still be required for complex decision-making, ethical considerations, and managing nuanced situations where AI may not be suitable.
Concerns about AI bias and transparency:
Implementing AI in government services raises concerns about potential biases in algorithms and the need for transparency in decision-making processes. It can identify patterns in data to detect potentially fraudulent activity in government programs.
According to Alan Turing, an English mathematician and scientist who is known as the father of modern computer science, computer machinery and intelligence will be used to measure computer intelligence.
According to Elon Musk, the wealthiest man in the world and a businessman who is known for his key roles in Tesla and Twitter and is now a senior adviser to US President Donald Trump, AI has already exhausted all human-made data to train themselves and now relies on hallucination – and prone synthetic data.
Father of AI:
John McCarthy is considered as the father of AI since the term Artificial Intelligence was coined by him. He was an American computer scientist. The term “artificial intelligence” was coined by him. He is one of the founders of artificial intelligence, together with Alan Turing and others.
